HS Business Students Suit Up to Compete
North Shore High School Business Education students participated in the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Competition at SUNY Farmingdale on November 30th. Over 300 students from 14 high schools on Long Island competed in a variety of categories such as Advertising, Entrepreneurship, Sports Management, Sports Marketing and Graphic Design. Some of the projects North Shore students presented included:
-
Creating an Advertising campaign for the iPhone 4S
-
Developing a proposal to increase the fan base of the Long Island Ducks
-
Pitching a plan to the NFL to move the Jacksonville Jaguars to LA
-
Creating a new business venture to help revitalize a Long Island town
-
Designing a unique and engaging logo for a specialty ice cream store
Students presented their work to a panel of judges made up of industry experts and enjoyed networking with other high school students and local business professionals. Winners for North Shore included Shaune Killough and Adam Lavender in the Advertising category which featured their “Siri-ously” slogan.
“The creativity and professionalism of all our students was outstanding,” said Ms. Kornberg, NSHS Business Education teacher. “This was a great opportunity for students to work on real world business projects and gain insight into the challenges faced by business professionals in a variety of fields. The research, collaboration, and presentations skills they used for this competition will benefit them tremendously in college and beyond.”
The Business Education Department is new at North Shore High School and offers students the opportunity to take classes in subjects such as Investments, International Business, Accounting and Introduction to Business. Marketing and Business Law will be added to the course offerings next year.
